This Privacy Policy explains what information Gift ("we," "us," "our") collects when you use the Gift mobile app, why we collect it, who it is shared with, and what control you have over it. Gift is a habit tracking app for iPhone.

Information you provide directly

You can create a Gift account with Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google, or an email address and password. We receive your name and email address as provided by the sign in method you choose. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email" option, we only receive the private relay address Apple generates, never your real one. If you sign up with an email address, your password is handled by our sign in provider, Clerk, and we never see or store it ourselves.

We also store the information you create inside the app so that it can be shown back to you and kept in sync. This includes your habits and reminders, their schedules and timing, your completion history, your sleep and wake times, your Gift Score and daily summaries, and the programs you join.

Earlier versions of Gift let you write journal entries and a “saved habits” queue. Those features are no longer in the app. If any leftover rows still exist in our database from that period, they stay private to your account, are not used for advertising, and are removed when you delete your account.

Information stored only on your device

Habit reminders are scheduled as notifications directly on your iPhone, so Gift does not collect a push notification token. The Gift widget reads a small copy of your score and habits that is kept on your device so it can display them on your Home Screen.

Information collected automatically

Gift uses PostHog to count a small set of anonymous events, such as which setup screens are reached, when the subscription screen is shown, and when a habit is marked done. We use these counts to find the places where Gift is confusing. The events carry a random ID created on your device when you install Gift. They are not connected to your name, email address, or account, location lookup from your IP address is turned off, and they never include the names of your habits or anything you type. Gift does not include advertising software, does not run session replay, does not record keystrokes, and does not track you across other apps or websites. Like most online services, the companies that host our database and sign in system may keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses and request times, to keep the service secure and working.

If you sign up with email, our sign in provider (Clerk) may send you a short verification code. Those messages are required to create your account. Gift does not send marketing or waitlist email.

Screen Time and app blocking

If you turn on Blocked Mode in a program to limit distracting apps, Gift asks for Apple's Screen Time permission (Family Controls). Apple's privacy design limits what any app can see through this permission. Gift only ever receives counts, such as how many apps or categories you selected, and never learns which specific apps you picked or how you otherwise use your phone. This limit is built into Apple's system and applies to every app that uses it.

Subscriptions and payment

Gift requires a subscription, currently $3.99 per month or $29.99 per year, and the yearly plan includes a 7 day free trial. Every payment is handled by Apple through your App Store account, so we never see or store your card details. We use RevenueCat to confirm your subscription status. RevenueCat receives your purchase information from Apple and a random identifier for your account so that Gift can unlock for you. If you subscribe before creating an account, your purchase is linked to your account once you sign in.

What we don't collect

Gift does not access your camera, microphone, contacts, photos, or location. Gift does not let you upload profile pictures or other photos. Gift does not show advertising, and we do not share or sell your information to advertisers or data brokers.

Who we share information with

We share information only with the companies that make Gift work, and only for that purpose:

We require these companies to handle your information with protections at least as protective as this policy, which is what Apple's App Store rules require of us. We may also disclose information if the law requires it. We do not sell your personal information to anyone, for any reason.

How your data is protected

Information travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections. Our database is set up so that each account can only read and change its own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe and to collect only what Gift needs.

How long we keep your data

We keep your account and app data for as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings inside the app, which removes your data from our database and deletes your sign in account. Deletion happens right away and cannot be undone. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription, so please cancel it in your iPhone's Settings as well if you no longer want to be billed.

Your choices and rights

You can view and edit most of your information directly in the app. The Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, and Support pages are also linked from Settings inside the app. If you would like a copy of your data, want something corrected, or have a privacy request the app doesn't cover, email us at the address below and we will respond as quickly as we can. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local privacy laws, and we will honor those requests.

Children's privacy

Gift is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. By creating an account or using Gift, you confirm that you are 13 or older. That is not parental consent and is not a verified age check. If you are under 13, do not use Gift. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us at the address below and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use Gift after a change means you accept the updated policy.

Terms of Use

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and Gift ("we," "us," "our") that governs your use of the Gift mobile app (the "Services"). By creating an account, starting a subscription, or otherwise using Gift, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. Your use of Gift is also subject to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement.

Who can use Gift

You must be at least 13 years old to use Gift. By creating an account or using the app, you confirm that you meet this requirement. That is not parental consent. If you are under 13, do not create an account or use the app.

Your account

You can sign in to Gift with Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google, or an email address and password. You are responsible for keeping your device and login details secure, and for all activity that happens under your account. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings inside the app.

Subscriptions and billing

Gift requires an active subscription ("Gift Plus") to use the app after onboarding. The subscription is currently $3.99 per month or $29.99 per year, and prices may vary by country. Every charge is made to your Apple App Store account.

The yearly plan includes a 7 day free trial for people who haven't used it before. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, your Apple account is charged the yearly price when the trial ends. The monthly plan has no free trial and is charged as soon as you subscribe.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your iPhone's Settings under your Apple Account, then Subscriptions, or from the Gift Plus row in Gift's own Settings, which takes you there directly. When you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.

Deleting your Gift account does not cancel your subscription. Please cancel through Apple as described above if you no longer want to be billed. If we ever change the price of an existing subscription, Apple will notify you in advance as its rules require.

Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's own refund policies. We don't process refunds directly and can't override Apple's decisions, but you can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

What Gift does and doesn't do

Gift is a habit tracking tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Nothing in the app should be treated as professional medical, psychological, or health guidance. If you have a health concern, please talk to a qualified professional.

Blocked Mode, Gift's app blocking feature in programs, uses Apple's Screen Time system to help you limit distracting apps. It is a personal tool for your own use, not a guaranteed technical restriction, because Screen Time settings can always be changed directly on your device and Gift cannot prevent that.

Your content

The habits, history, and schedules you create in Gift belong to you, and we don't claim ownership over them. We store and process them only to provide the app's features back to you, as described in our Privacy Policy. Gift does not host public profile pictures or other user-uploaded images.

Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse Gift. This includes not attempting to reverse engineer, decompile, or interfere with the app or its backend systems, not using the app for any unlawful purpose, and not attempting to get around the subscription system.

Changes to the app

We may add, change, or remove features over time, and we may suspend or discontinue the Services entirely. We will try to give reasonable notice of major changes where practical, but we don't guarantee that any specific feature will always be available.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Gift is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted or free of errors, or that it will meet your specific expectations for building or keeping any habit. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.

Termination

You may stop using Gift and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end access to the Services if we reasonably believe these terms have been violated.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles, except where the law of the country you live in requires otherwise. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use Gift after a change means you accept the updated terms.

How does Gift work?

Gift is a habit tracker built around a single Gift Score instead of streaks. You can run up to 10 habits at once, log them from the widget or the Today screen, and your score reflects how consistent you've been recently without punishing you for a missed day. Gift also includes programs that guide you through a set of habits, with an optional Blocked Mode that locks distracting apps when a reminder arrives until you check the habit off.

How much does Gift cost?

Gift is a subscription, currently $3.99 per month or $29.99 per year. The yearly plan starts with a 7 day free trial, so you can try the whole app before you're charged. The monthly plan has no trial and is charged when you subscribe.

How do I cancel my free trial or subscription?

Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple, not inside Gift. Open your iPhone's Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Gift, or open the Gift Plus row in Gift's own Settings, which takes you straight there. To avoid being charged for the yearly plan, cancel at least 24 hours before your trial ends. Canceling stops future billing, and you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.

I got a new phone and Gift is asking me to subscribe again

Sign in with the same account you used before, then tap Restore Purchases on the subscription screen. As long as you're signed in to the same Apple Account in the App Store, your subscription will be restored without a second charge.

How do I get a refund?

Because every payment goes through Apple, refunds are handled by Apple as well. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I delete my account and data?

Open Gift, go to Settings, and choose Delete account. This permanently removes your account and all associated data right away, and it can't be undone. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription, so please cancel it through Apple as well if you no longer want to be billed.

How does app blocking work?

Blocked Mode in programs uses Apple's own Screen Time system to lock the apps you choose when a reminder arrives, and they stay locked until you check that habit off. Gift never sees which specific apps you picked, only how many, because Apple builds that privacy limit into Screen Time itself.

My widget isn't updating

The widget refreshes in the background from time to time and also whenever you open the app. If it looks stuck, opening Gift once will usually bring it up to date. If it's still wrong after that, email us with your device model and iOS version and we'll look into it.
